The goals of the Council's Research department are: to increase knowledge about foundations and other grantmakers to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of its members to communicate the information it creates and encourage its use by members and others to support public policy on behalf of foundations and other grantmakers and, to maintain effective relationships with other institutions that conduct research in support of philanthropy. These goals are accomplished through the department's various surveys and reports, which are designed to increase knowledge about the board, staff and endowment management practices of foundations and corporate philanthropy programs.

National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations - 07/01/2008
The Community Foundations Leadership Team invites your community foundation to adopt the National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations and join a growing and dynamic movement to strengthen the effectiveness of the community foundation field. The National Standards were developed by a group of community foundation practitioners after months of careful research and consultation and were approved by the Leadership Team and the field in late 2000. Since then, community foundations across the country - large and small, established and new, urban and rural - have pledged to adopt and implement National Standards.
