Corporate Philanthropy Update - July 2017
As we make our way through summer, I know a lot of you are beginning to turn your attention to fall and making plans for the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York City, beginning in September. This can be an effective time to launch new global initiatives, form new partnerships and collaborations, and network with stakeholders relevant to your interest areas.
That said, it can also be a crowded and noisy week that is difficult to navigate. The UN Global Compact recently produced a Business Guide to UN General Assembly Week, which aims to help facilitate private sector coordination during UNGA Week. From now until September, I would expect this list to evolve so check back often if you’re planning to engage. Please let us know if we can help strategize or promote your events during this time.
In addition to participating in various activities that week, the Council is planning several events in partnership with Concordia and the SDG Philanthropy Platform. If you’re interested in learning more, please reach out.
Below are several updates related to our corporate members as well as future opportunities for you to engage with us and your peers in the field.
Grantmaker Salary and Benefits (GSB) Report
The Council's 2016 Grantmaker Salary and Benefits (GSB) Report, the largest and most comprehensive analysis of the philanthropic sector in the United States, is now available online. This year's report offers insight on positions, salary, benefits, and demographics of 1,010 grantmakers, analyzing nearly 10,000 full-time professional and administrative staff members, and is an effective resource to benchmark personnel policies and practices, determine salary levels for new and existing staff, and more.
We are also now collecting data for our 2017 GSB Survey. In collaboration with our partners at Mission Investors Exchange, we have included an impact investing specific staff position to this year's survey to highlight philanthropy's staffing response to a rapidly growing interest area.

Legal Webinar Series
On June 29, we held the second installment of our Legal and Tax Compliance for Corporate Grantmakers series. In this webinar, Staff Council Bryan Del Rosario did a deep dive into the rules against self-dealing, where they come from, and what they involve. Look Ahead – 2017 Activities to Attend
Mark your calendar for the third Endowments and Finance Summit, the premier convening to hear expert insights and have in-depth conversations on the best practices and financial strategies to get a competitive advantage in the philanthropic advisory marketplace.
