Community Foundations and Civic Healing

A recent Pew Research survey of Americans found that 58% are dissatisfied with the way democracy is working, while 62% remain optimistic about the country’s future. These types of statistics illustrate a depth of problems- such as civic polarization, social fragmentation, and declining trust in institutions. Yet, the population's openness to finding solutions offers a glimmer of hope. In the face of such national challenges, what role does place-based, local institutions of renewal play in the healing of our communities, and therefore of America? CEONet recently held a retreat on “Community Foundations and Civic Healing” to discuss these issues and the topics are so important that we are continuing the conversation.

Moderator:

  • Eileen Ellsworth, President and CEO, Community Foundation for Northern Virginia

Conversation Starters:

  • Stuart Comstock-Gay, President and CEO, Delaware Community Foundation
  • Shelly O’Quinn, CEO, Innovia Foundation
