Announcing the first anniversary convening of the Philanthropy – Joining Forces Impact Pledge in collaboration the Veterans Philanthropy Exchange on May 12, 2015 at the Red Cross National Headquarters, 1730 E St. NW in Washington, D.C.

What it Is
Hosted by the Council on Foundations and the Veterans Philanthropy Exchange, this day-long convening of the veterans philanthropy community builds on the historic pledges in 2014 of more than $200 million by grantmakers to support programs for service members, veterans and their families. Attendees will include Philanthropy-Joining Forces Impact Pledge national grantmakers, veterans funders, nonprofit grantees, federal agency officials, veterans and military family members. It marks the first anniversary of the Impact Pledge initiative catalyzed last year by the Council’s members, Blue Shield of California Foundation, the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, the Lincoln Community Foundation and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation.
Why it's Important
Helping more than 2 million veterans and their families successfully transition and reintegrate to civilian life after more than a decade of war is a national priority. The first anniversary of the Impact Pledge marks an important milestone in an ongoing effort to demonstrate the philanthropic sector’s commitment to providing support non-profit organizations that are providing vital services for veterans and their families throughout America.

In addition to new funders joining the Impact Pledge and announcing their commitments, the convening includes:

- Lee Woodruff, The Bob Woodruff Foundation
- Vikki Spruill, President and CEO, The Council on Foundations
- Col. Miguel Howe, George W. Bush Institute
- The White House Joining Forces Initiative
- A report on the important progress to date of Impact Pledge funders and their partners. The report will be shared with the White House, federal agencies, veterans organizations, the media and more.
- Substantive discussions and breakout ‘solution sessions’ designed to help funders advance public-private partnerships, community engagement and promising innovations and research to address veterans homelessness, employment and access to mental health services.
