Join foundations and philanthropy serving organizations from across the country for a webinar on July 11th at 2pm EST. “Philanthropy's Role in Strengthening Democracy” is co-sponsored by Council on Foundations, Independent Sector, and Nonprofit VOTE.
The webinar will cover companion toolkits—one for community foundations and one for private foundations—and feature Elina Alterman, Program Officer at the Kansas Health Foundation and Kiki Jamieson, President of The Fund for New Jersey discussing how they aligned voter engagement with their foundations' missions and their approaches to supporting grantees conducting this work. Brian Miller, Executive Director of Nonprofit VOTE will present the toolkits and moderate the webinar, including a question and answer session with the guest speakers and attendees.
Voter engagement is not just another program, but rather, a valuable tool in a broader set of strategies to build healthy communities, give voice across all neighborhoods, and increase the impact and effectiveness of grantees to achieve their goals. Private foundations, like public foundations, may support a range of voter engagement activities as long as it’s on a nonpartisan basis. The toolkits lift up concrete ideas and examples for foundations to encourage voter engagement among their grantees and networks. Strategies range from communications, resource sharing, and nonprofit trainings to integration into programs and grant making or donor and grantee education.
