WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION TO THE CENTER FOR URBAN FAMILIES
Social investment experts have much to learn from the founder and leader of the Center for Urban Families. His work to support fathers and families in achieving stability and economic success has received international recognition.
Jones and Patterson will speak about the work of the Center and its integrative approach to supporting families. He will also talk about the ancillary community benefits that come from providing fathers an opportunity to parent their children.

Foundations have played an important role in strengthening the programs of the Center for Urban Families. Annie E. Casey Foundation has helped them think through cutting-edge ways to evaluate the program’s impact, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation has assisted the Center with creating refinements to its program. This discussion will focus on how collaborative grantmaking leads to greater impact.

A HISTORY OF STRUCTURAL RACISM IN BALTIMORE
One of the country’s leading public historians, who has been working with policymakers to promote understanding of the city’s history, will talk about how Baltimore’s neighborhoods developed. She will chart the development of inequality and its impacts on the economy, politics, and culture of “The Greatest City in America.”

POLICE AND YOUTH CHALLENGE PROGRAM DISCUSSION
For several years, Outward Bound Baltimore (OBB) has worked to build experiential educational opportunities for youth in Baltimore. Recent contributions from corporate and family funders have helped OBB expand its police and youth challenge, which pairs more than 3,000 police officers with youth to build mutual understanding and respect. Initial evaluations of the project have shown that it is having a positive measurable impact, and a multi-year study by researchers at Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health is examining the program’s long-term impact.

This highly interactive session is intended to spur conversation about the day’s programming and to help participants connect the day’s activities with their work back home.
