About the Advisory Group for the Center for Community Foundations

Meet the Current Advisory Group Members

Established in 2022, the Advisory Group for the Center for Community Foundations provides an opportunity for community foundation leaders to influence and advise the programs, resources, and services the Council provides for this key segment of its membership and the broader field.

Advisory Group Purpose

This Advisory Group aims to:

  • Advise and influence the Council’s strategic approach to engaging community foundations, helping shape important decisions about programming, resources, conversation topics, conference content, and other Council-led activities.
  • Identify new opportunities for the Council to better serve the field.
  • Assist the Council in partnering effectively with peer community foundation-serving organizations, to better coordinate and align efforts that advance the sector.
  • Represent diverse community foundation needs.
  • Build relationships between and among community foundations from across the country who serve on this Advisory Group.

Expectations of Advisory Group Members

  • The Advisory Group will meet virtually, a minimum of six times a year, with a possible in-person meeting alongside other Council events when feasible.
  • Advisory Group members are expected to actively participate in at least four meetings per year.
  • Additional meetings will be added as determined by the Chair and Vice Chair, in consultation with the Council’s Senior Advisor, Community Philanthropy.
  • Members should expect to commit at least 4 hours per quarter to prepare for and participate in meetings.
  • In membership terms leading up to the Council’s biennial place-based philanthropy conference Leading Locally, members will collaborate with the Council to inform conference planning.
  • The Advisory Group will collaborate with the Council team to design and advance projects that benefit the community foundation field.
  • Members will act as “champions” for the Council in conversation with peers in the field and are willing to answer questions about the Council’s work.

Eligibility

  • Members of the Advisory Group will be senior leaders at community foundations at either the C-Suite or VP level.
  • Advisory Group members must be current Council members or plan to become a Council member within one year of joining the Advisory Group.
  • Eligibility for future terms will be determined as informed by meeting the expectations listed above.

Composition and Term of Service

  • The Advisory Group includes up to 23 members, reflecting a balance of national geographic distribution, organizational sizes, and political beliefs as well as personal demographics.
  • Advisory Group members serve one-year terms, with the option of renewing for up to two additional one-year terms for a total of three years of service.
  • The Advisory Group will be led by a Chair and Vice Chair, each serving one-year terms. After one year of service, the Vice Chair will be invited to step into the Chair role. The outgoing Chair will be invited to stay on as Past Chair.
  • There will be an open call for nominations every year.
  • All members are appointed by the Council’s Vice President, Membership, Development and Finance.
