Chris Huber

Chris Huber grew up in Hot Springs, South Dakota, and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Minnesota State University and an MBA from Dakota Wesleyan University. He is a 2021 graduate of Leadership South Dakota. 

Before entering philanthropy, he built a career in journalism as a photojournalist and reporter, before eventually rising to Executive Editor of the Rapid City Journal in 2017. 

Huber transitioned to the nonprofit sector through the Monument Health Foundation in 2019 before joining the Black Hills Area Community Foundation in 2021. While at the community foundation, he helped lead the expansion of the Rapid City Strategic Housing Trust Fund and took on increasing responsibility across the organization's community leadership programmatic and donor work. He was named President and CEO in 2024.

Today, Huber oversees all operations at BHACF, a regional community foundation with more than $100 million in assets that has granted over $75 million to the communities it serves across a seven-county area in western South Dakota since 2006. During his time at BHACF, Huber has significantly grown the size and scope of the foundation, including playing a central role in securing $30 million in federal housing funds that have expanded affordable housing options across the Black Hills region. His work spans grantmaking, donor stewardship, community leadership, and strategic initiatives in affordable housing, food security, and nonprofit sustainability. Huber is widely recognized among the national network of community foundation executives for his community leadership work. 

Outside of work, he takes full advantage of living in one of the country's most scenic regions. He can regularly be found biking, hiking, skiing, camping, hunting, fishing and rock climbing across the Black Hills with his wife and two children.
