Ministerial Facilitator

Rev. Karen Shuford is the former Co-Chair and current Ministerial Facilitator for Alabama Leads, a program co-created to provide peer connection, opportunities for learning and growth, and programmatic support for leaders working to build a more resilient, equitable, and peaceful Alabama. In her role as Ministerial Facilitator of Alabama Leads, she brings awareness of the dangers of intentional/unintentional use of hate speech from the position of clergy members. 

Rev. Karen has served as the pastor of Wesley Chapel CME Church in Century Florida since 2016. After serving as assistant Chaplain for Julia Tutwiler maximum-security prison for women, Rev. Shuford created Julia’s Closet, a complete aftercare program for returning female citizens, which provides job search assistance, transportation and housing referrals as well as health care, and legal referrals. 

She is married to Deacon Christopher Shuford where they reside in Montgomery, AL and have 5 children and 3 grandchildren.
