Search for Common Ground

CEO

Shamil Idriss is CEO of Search for Common Ground (Search), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to transform the way the world deals with conflict, away from adversarial approaches and toward collaborative problem-solving. Search is the largest non-governmental peacebuilding organization and was nominated by the Quakers for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. Under Idriss's leadership, Search has grown in impact and influence, establishing a framework for monitoring societal stability that has been adopted by national and state governments; executing three nonprofit mergers and acquisitions; launching a domestic program in the U.S. that is now the organization's largest country program; and preparing to launch, in 2026, a Common Ground Leadership Academy to support and equip people to lead effectively through polarization and conflict. Idriss is married to Dr. Cynthia Miller-Idriss, a world-renowned scholar on violent extremism.
