Corporate Philanthropy Update - March 2019

We are just over one month away from the Council on Foundations’ 2019 Leading Together Conference, taking place in Miami, Florida, from April 29 through May 1.

This year, our Leading Together conference has even more content targeted at corporates, including conversations with peers, platforms for corporate leaders, and lots of sharing across foundations of all kinds.

Here is our schedule and a few highlights that I think corporates will especially enjoy:

  • Corporate-Only Roundtable Discussion: The Impacts of Mergers & Acquisitions on Corporate Philanthropy. Learn more about this below.
  • Workshop: Leveraging Philanthropy in Concert with Business Initiatives & Cross-Sector Partnerships to Promote Lifelong Learning, featuring Walmart, Google.org, and the Drucker Institute
  • Corporate Networking Luncheon

This year’s conference tracks also explore issues that matter to all foundations: Inclusive Economic Prosperity, Climate Change, Bridging Divides, and Philanthropic Practice. If you have not yet registered, I hope you will, and join us in Miami!

Discussion: Impact of Mergers & Acquisitions on Corporate Philanthropy

Mergers and acquisitions are increasingly common for American and global companies — across sectors, sizes, and geographic footprints. At the Council, we’ve received numerous questions from corporate philanthropy practitioners asking for guidance and information on promising practices around navigating these transitions. To help us support corporate philanthropy amidst mergers and acquisitions, we invite companies, corporate philanthropy practitioners, and the organizations that serve them to join us in learning more and creating relevant resources. To learn more or get involved, please contact Mergers@cof.org.

Southern California Grantmakers logoThe Council on Foundations and Southern California Grantmakers are partnering to offer a Legal Matters Workshop for Corporate & Private Foundations in Los Angeles in June. We hope this date will work for corporate philanthropic staff on the West Coast, as well as anyone attending the 2019 Social Innovation Summit that week in LA.

Following our successful first Legal Matters workshop for corporates in Philly in early March, we are thrilled to be able to bring this resource to more cities. Register today to learn more about the legalities of charitable giving and gather our attorney’s expertise on your corporate giving and corporate foundation questions.

Thanks to Wells Fargo for supporting Legal Matters as our host in Los Angeles.
