The Council has partnered with Candid (formerly Foundation Center) to publish data on global giving by U.S. foundations for decades.
Importantly, both the 2018 edition and 2022 edition specifically analyze direct grants made by U.S. foundations to local organizations in other countries around the world. During the period between 2011-2015, only 12% of all international grant dollars went directly to local organizations in other countries. During the 2016-2019 period, this increased to just 13%.
