#PhilChat: Has Philanthropy Embraced Diversity?
Twitter debate to engage grantmakers in a discussion about inclusion in the field
With questions about diversity and inclusion leading local and national headlines, this month's #PhilChat will examine the state of diversity in philanthropy, from staff to boardrooms, grantmaking to policies. This discussion will bring together grantmakers in an open and honest dialogue about where the sector stands on the issue.
Please join the Council on Foundations and The Chronicle of Philanthropy during a special Twitter chat, March 28, 2–3 p.m. ET, using the hashtag #PhilChat.
Participants are invited to join Council Vice President of Professional Development, Diversity, and Inclusion Renee Branch and other philanthropic leaders to share experiences related to diversity and philanthropy and answer the question: Has philanthropy embraced diversity? Does more need to be done? Other themes to be explored include:
- How does the field attract talent from diverse backgrounds to careers in philanthropy?
- What are ways to increase diversity on boards?
- What comes first: diversity in staff or diversity in senior leadership?
- Is there a glass ceiling in philanthropy for those from diverse backgrounds and if so, how does the sector shatter it?
- Has the definition of diversity become too broad? Do headcounts matter more than inclusion?
How the Twitter chat works: Participants just need to access their Twitter accounts and follow the discussion through the #PhilChat hashtag.
The Council and The Chronicle will encourage participants to tweet questions before and during the one-hour online conversation. Some of the most common questions and requests for information will be gathered and addressed during the chat.
