Managing Director, Core Services
Elizabeth (Liz) Kane serves at Managing Director of Core Services at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. In this capacity, Liz has responsibility for grants management, knowledge management and meeting and event services. She serves on the Leadership Advisory Team that advises the President on strategic and policy matters. Liz’s focus is on delivering efficient, effective and equitable operations to support the Foundation’s mission and work.
In addition to her full-time role at the MacArthur Foundation, Liz also serves as Co-Director of the Philanthropy Data Commons (https://www.philanthropydatacommons.org) alongside Co-Director and MacArthur Chief Information Officer, John Mohr.
Liz previously served as the Secretary of the MacArthur Foundation and as the President's Chief of Staff.
Prior to her time at MacArthur, Liz worked in the Clinton Administration. At the U.S. Department of Labor, Liz was responsible for managing policy and legislative development on a variety of issues, including: veterans and women's, international labor and discrimination. She began her career at the White House in the Office of Cabinet Affairs where she managed special projects for the Cabinet Secretary.
Liz received her Master of Arts in International Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame, concentrating on international conflict resolution. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Notre Dame, majoring in the great books program. Between undergraduate and graduate studies, she worked for one year at the YMCA in Northern Ireland.
