Managing Effectively Across Differences: The Impact of Implicit Bias on Leadership
An intimate group of thought leaders from the higher education, philanthropic and corporate sectors came together for a unique convening designed to explore the impact of implicit bias on leadership and operational excellence.
This convening aimed to accomplish the following objectives:
- Define implicit bias and its related physiology
- Explore and examine the impact of implicit bias on operational effectiveness
- Explain the links between implicit bias, diversity, equity, and inclusion within the context of leadership
- Address the impact of implicit bias upon an organization and its decision-making capabilities
- Identify practical applications for addressing and minimizing bias
The convening, co-hosted by the TIAA Institute, Duke University Office of the Provost, and the Council on Foundations, brought together thought leaders from institutions of higher education, foundations, and corporations as well as experts on implicit bias.
The programming for this unique convening was curated by a working group with representatives from each of the co-hosts. Attendance at this special convening was by invitation only.
