The Council on Foundations’ inaugural Public Policy Summit included specific programing to determine a policy agenda for the Veterans Philanthropy Exchange in Philadelphia, on April 12, 2018.
This meeting of Veterans funders took a deep dive to explore public policy issues foundations could advance together to improve the transition of veterans and their families to their home communities after service.
Enacting the right public policies can remove the systemic barriers that impede innovations and improvements in services. We listened to expert guidance on which veterans’ policy issues are currently being addressed and which policies could be raised with policymakers on Capitol Hill and the Defense and Veterans Affairs Departments.
The day was facilitated toward a set of key policy priorities and engagement strategies by The TCC Group, a consulting firm that collaborates with leaders in the social sector to solve complex social problems. TCC has extensive experience working with foundations on public policy engagement strategies to support mission work.
Guest speakers included:
- William Hoagland, Senior Vice President, Bi-Policy Partisan Center
- Philip Carter, Senior Fellow and Director, Military, Veterans, and Society Program, Center for a New American Security
A networking reception with all Policy Summit attendees was held on Thursday, April 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
