Program Officer
Shima is a program officer at Maine Initiatives, a public, a progressive foundation that supports and strengthens non-profit organizations that are advancing social, economic, and environmental justice in the state of Maine. She manages the Immigrant-led organization Fund, a program that was created to support emergent and established immigrant-led organizations in Maine. Shima is also the coordinator of Maine’s Immigrant and Refugee Funders Collaborative, an informal body of Maine-based and regional funders with an interest in supporting the state's growing immigrant and refugee communities. Before joining Maine Initiatives, she served with the Telling Room as program assistant through the Americorps Vista, working on improving program coordination to meet increased demand and ensure program quality, and co-led a creative writing program that served Immigrant and Refugee High School Students.
Shima is a founding member of the Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center( (GPIWC), a hub for collaboration and opportunity for the immigrant community in the Greater Portland area, where she served as a board member, 2017-2020. Last fall, she served as the interim executive director of the GPWIC after the unexpected passing of the founding executive director.
She has served on the Board of The Community Development Block Grant and GPWIC.
