About the Advisory Group for the Center for Community Foundations
Meet the Current Advisory Group Members
Established in 2022, the Council on Foundations' Advisory Group for the Center for Community Foundations provides an opportunity for community foundation leaders to influence and advise the programs, resources, and services the Council provides for this key segment of its membership and the broader field.
Advisory Group Purpose
The Advisory Group aims to:
- Represent diverse community foundation wants and needs, in order to assist the Council in identifying new opportunities to better serve the field.
- Advise and influence the Council’s strategic approach to engaging community foundations, weighing in on important decisions about events, trainings and curricula, publications, peer conversation topics, conference content, and other Council-led activities.
- Assist the Council in partnering effectively with peer community foundation-serving organizations, in order to better coordinate and align efforts that advance the sector.
- Build relationships between and among community foundations from across the country who serve on this Advisory Group.
Expectations of Group Members
- Advisory Group members are expected to prepare for and actively participate in at least three meetings per year.
- The Advisory Group meets a minimum of four times a year virtually, with a possible annual in-person meeting alongside other Council events.
- Additional meetings will be added as determined by the co-chair(s), in consultation with the Council’s Vice President of Membership, Development, and Finance.
- Members should expect to commit approximately 90 minutes per quarter, with up to an hour of pre-work before meetings.
- Serve as champions of the Council’s work with community foundations, including potentially assisting with recruitment of community foundation peers or promoting Council activities and services for community foundations.
- The Advisory Group is supported by the Council's Membership team.
Eligibility
- Members of the Advisory Group will be senior leaders at community foundations at either the C-Suite or VP level.
- Advisory Group members must be Council members, although non-members are eligible to serve for one year before becoming a Council member and must become a Council member to renew their service on the Advisory Group.
Composition and Term of Service
- The Advisory Group includes up to 22 members, reflecting a balance of national geographic distribution, organizational sizes, and political beliefs as well as personal demographics.
- The Advisory Group is led by 2-3 co-chairs, each serving 1-year terms that can be renewed for up to 2 years.
- There will be an open call to the field for nominations every year.
- All members are appointed by the Council’s Vice President, Membership, Development and Finance.
- Advisory Group members serve one-year terms, with the option of renewing for up to three years.
