Arts at the Conference
These are just a few of the performances and art contributions you can expect to experience throughout the conference. The Council would like to thank our Arts Partner, Americans for the Arts.
Sunday, April 10
12:35 pm Hannah White & Sterling Elliott performing Passacaglia for Violin and Cello
Hannah White, winner of the 2015 Junior Division of the Sphinx Competition, has been playing the violin for seven years. A Puth Foundation Fellow, she is in her fifth year as a merit scholarship recipient and member of the Music Institute of Chicago’s Academy, a precollege training program for highly gifted musicians. Fourteen-year old cellist Sterling Elliott began his studies at the age of three and currently performs as part of the Sphinx Soloist Program. He is the Junior Division First Place Laureate of the 2014 Annual Sphinx Competition and an honor student at Menchville High School in Newport News, VA.
The Council thanks the Sphinx Organization dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts.
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm Hit+Run Live Silk Screening
HIT+RUN creates a one-of-a-kind custom interactive art experience allowing you to personally select a design and color combination on a shirt or tote to remember your experience at the Council on Foundations’ 2016 Annual Conference.

3:40 pm Darden Smith – SongwritingWith:Soldiers
Darden Smith is the Founder and Creative Director of SongwritingWith:Soldiers and is responsible for bringing together the perfect blend of artists to work with our veterans. In 2011, Smith introduced the SongwritingWith: program which uses collaborative songwriting to help individuals whose lives have been challenged by trauma tell their stories - which he calls “the most scary, and beautiful work I’ve ever done.”
