As you know, most policy issues impacting philanthropy are tax policy issues. In December 2025, key provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) are set to expire, kicking off a race to develop new tax legislation. Even before we know the results of the 2024 election, Congressional committees and individual offices have begun to outline their policy priorities for this upcoming tax bill. Here is a conversation with tax and government affairs experts as we talk through what this could mean for foundations and what you can do now to get ready.

A conversation with tax and government affairs experts as we talk through what a new tax bill could mean for foundations.
What’s at stake for philanthropy in 2025? How can you be prepared for the upcoming tax bill? How can you play a greater role in educating Congress about our sector and its priorities? This three-part election series will help foundation leaders prepare for next year.
In 2025, Congress will be writing a new tax bill, as many provisions from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) are set to expire. While the November elections will shape who will be seated at the negotiating table, we know the process has already begun and policymakers are developing their priorities for this upcoming bill. Join us to learn how to prepare for the upcoming tax bill discussions (October 1st), what election results could mean for philanthropy (November 14th), and how you can join us in educating Congress about the issues important to the sector (February 11th).

While we are still learning about the immediate policy priorities for the 119th Congress and administration, we’ve already seen increased scrutiny on the sector, and we know Congress will consider tax legislation next year.
These peer discussions are invite-only and member-only. If you did not receive an invitation but would like to explore these issues with peers, please contact Brian Kastner, Director of Engagement at the Council on Foundations.
Discussion Dates:
