Vice President Grants and Community Impact

Athan has an extensive career in the field of philanthropy that has included serving in various development and programmatic roles for various foundations and philanthropic initiatives. Athan is a knowledgeable thought leader recognized for fostering an understanding and appreciation for how philanthropy can be utilized as an effective tool for building and transforming communities. Athan brings over 25 years of experience and knowledge in the philanthropic sector to the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro and the Greater Greensboro community. Over the years, Athan has worked extensively elevating the rich giving traditions of African American/Black philanthropy and equipping African American donors with donor education and access to different charitable giving vehicles that advance their charitable giving goals and establishes their philanthropic legacies. Prior to being promoted to Vice President of Grants and Community Impact, he led donor engagement efforts to engage more donors of color. As the Vice President Grants and Community Impact, for the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro where he leads the Foundation’s grantmaking programs and initiatives to have a positive impact on Greensboro. 
 
Athan currently resides in Elon, North Carolina with his wife, Cori. They are the proud parents to their son, Langston Joseph George Lindsay, (b.12/12/12). Athan is a native of Winston-Salem, NC. Athan graduated from Davidson College in 1993 with a B.A. in History. Athan is a 2000 Fellow of the Southeastern Council of Foundations Hull Leadership and the recipient of the Association of Black Foundation Executive’s (ABFE) 2006 Emerging Leader in Philanthropy Award.  He has been featured in and written articles for various national publications and has made many presentations at national conferences.
