Richard volunteers as Vice Chair of the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation’s Board of Directors in Pierce County, Washington. His personal mission statement is to “build whole, affirming and just community through deep listening, reflecting and storytelling.”
Richard is also on the Board of the Change Happens Foundation, participates as a member of the Donors of Color Network, and serves as a JEDI Advisor to the ClimateWorks Foundation (on matters of justice, equity, diversity & inclusion).
He enjoyed a 30+ year career in philanthropy as an executive director of the Levi Strauss Foundation and the former CEO of The Russell Family Foundation. Richard is a past Board member of the Council on Foundations and Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy.
