Private Philanthropy Update - November 2018

Natalie Ross

In case you missed it, last month the Council announced our next leader. We are honored that Kathleen P. Enright will become the Council’s new President and CEO, effective March 5, 2019. For the last 17 years, Kathleen has led Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO). Kathleen’s appointment equips the Council to become a better partner in a rapidly shifting landscape.

Since the announcement, I’ve met with Council members and partners during recent trips to Atlanta, Minneapolis, and New York. Many know and have worked with Kathleen, and are excited about her history of collaboration and partnership as a trusted leader in philanthropy. We believe Kathleen will provide the kind of strong, forward-thinking leadership the field of philanthropy needs in this moment of unprecedented change, opportunity and potential in our country and our field. I hope you’ll join us in welcoming Kathleen to the Council over the next few months.

If you aren't familiar with Kathleen, a recent article she authored in the Stanford Social Innovation Review about power in philanthropy is a great example of her leadership in the social sector.

As we prepare for 2019, we have a lot of exciting organizational developments, including an office move back to downtown Washington, DC, next February. We have also kicked off our 2019 membership renewal cycle – in the last few weeks, each Council member should have received dues invoices virtually and physically. If you want to let us know your intentions for renewal (and make sure that you don’t keep receiving renewal notices), please fill out this form. If you have any questions about your 2019 membership, please contact membership@cof.org. We look forward to continuing to work with you in 2019!

Best,
